We would like to thank everyone who took the time to send in such wonderful stories about their Woman of Valor. We enjoyed reaching each and every one of them. Here are the winners:
The following post for our Women of Valor Contest comes from Orly in Jerusalem:
When I think of of Woman of Valor, my mind always jumps to my Bubby, Alice Sirote. Bubby is my mother's mother, and I feel like she's mine as well. Not a day goes by when I don't speak to her, and share my thoughts and feelings. She can listen for hours without giving judgements or opinions, before sharing her calming advice.
Her generosity knows no bounds and is to be admired of.
Her heart, home, closet, kitchen and wallet are always open and offered to all who surround her. Generosity also comes in the form of comic relief. Her whole persona is funny, and she is always quick to share an amusing story or anecdote. like this one: "Do you know how I go to the Butcher in Israel? I tap on my shoulder for a shoulder roast, and my breasts for chicken breasts"
I Love you Bubby.
Happy Mothers Day!
My mother is a #WomanofValor. She is the type of person who would do anything for her family or friends! She is kind, compassionate and always thinks of others first. Just recently she helped me paint my condo before moving cross country (which she was not happy about), cat sat for my brother (even though she is scared of felines), and snuck into her bestie's house who was in bed sick to drop off some of her infamous chicken soup. What a mensch! In her free time she is passionate about raising money for Hadassah Hospital, she knits scarves for Israeli solders and tiny hats for premature babies. There isn't much she won't do for others and that is why I would like to show her how special she is to me! #challahconnection
Third Place (tie):
This entry for our Women of Valor contest comes from Talia: My mother is the funniest, craziest person I know. She is kind and generous and loves me no matter what. My mother and I have a special bond, we are very similar to each other and that makes things harder. Since we are so similar we fight often; but as much as we fight, we also giggle and laugh and make trouble together. This lady is my friend, she is my hero, she is my inspiration and she is my MOTHER. ❤️ #womenofvalor #challahconnection
Third Place (tie):
I would like to nominate my mother-in-law, Velma Heller, as a #WomanofValor. She has always been there for me, whether it's just to listen or to offer advice. She is an amazing woman who not only still teaches (as a professor at Sacred Heart University) but also gives back to our town (Westport, CT) by being the Deputy Moderator of the RTM and the chairperson of the RTM's Education Committee. She devotes countless hours to listening and trying to help very diverse opinions come to a consensus. She is one of a kind and I am blessed to have her in my life. #challahconnection
